ALUMNI | PARENT COUNCIL
Welcome to our Acacia Waldorf School Parent Council Community page!
Our unique school culture is built through the support of many parents, who are as valuable to our community as are our teachers and children. It is through parent support and initiatives that social gatherings peppered throughout the year are thoughtful, engaging, and fun!
Parents organize the biggest community event of the year, the Advent Fair, which showcases the best of Waldorf education and our collective Waldorf-inspired lifestyle.
Here are some ways you can get involved:
Arts & Crafts – for those who want to explore, learn, or build on art skills particularly in handwork, painting and crafting, or are keen on supporting the Advent Fair through stage, poster or signage design
Edible Garden & Farming – for parents with a green thumb interested in growing our schoolyard gardens, and exploring farm to table opportunities for the community
Advent Fair – Parents organize the biggest community event of the year, the Advent Fair, which showcases the best of Waldorf education and our collective Waldorf-inspired lifestyle. While all parents are involved in this process, we need leaders for coordination.
Library – for parents who are interested in growing the school library collection, as well as initiating activities that encourage the whole community to engage in reading from a collection of well curated books
Marketing and Communication – for parents who would like to work hand in hand with the school administration to increase parent awareness of the different aspects of Waldorf education and mindful parenting; market the school’s fundraising events to a wider community, including sourcing approved sponsors; help with communicating parent-related activities all with the guidance of the school’s administration
Music – for parents who are interested in enriching the school’s music program and music appreciation through mini concerts, including the arts and music festival slated for February
Nutrition, Health & Wellness – for parents who want to help promote nutrition, health and wellness by inviting guest speakers, organizing movement and wellness workshops and activities for the whole community
Science & Technology – for science enthusiasts who want to share their love of learning through the planning and hosting of workshops and experiments leading up to a school-wide science fair exploring age appropriate concepts
AWS Shop – for parents interested in helping develop AWS merchandise and initiating the first school store, particularly for this year’s 20th anniversary
Pop-Up Markets – for parents who are able to organize seasonal flea markets and pop-up stores showcasing the parent community’s homegrown businesses that align with the school (ie. handmade, wholesome, healthy and mindfully made products)
Resource Committee – parents interested in promoting and sustainably continuing the already established Zero-Waste Campaign of the previous Resource Committee; this includes ensuring that the school’s waste is segregated, reused, recycle and minimal waste is disposed on a daily basis, but also especially during the Advent Fair.
Teacher Care – this new committee is for those who want to help establish ways to support the well-being of our teachers; which may include boosting the existing teacher care fund for those who may have emergency needs
