Acacia Waldorf School

Waldorf Kindergarten classrooms are magical places where imagination and creativity flourish. Verses, stories, songs, drama, art, food preparation, movement and play are woven into the rhythm of each school day. These activities help develop fine and gross motor skills and listening skills necessary for the student’s academic success.

Academics begin in the first grade and provide a gentle introduction to school life. Young students are interested in learning and are inspired by the awakening abilities of memory and thinking. The Waldorf curriculum meets their innate curiosity and desire to grow, with rich multisensory experiences in the Middle School and Upper School curriculum.

English, Math, Sciences, History, the Arts, Handwork, Drama, Geography, Foreign Language, Farming, Music and Movement come alive with lots of creative classroom activities and experiential, hands on learning. Students sculpt, draw, move, listen, imagine and sound out, and are engaged in different learning styles to stimulate their young minds so that they remain motivated and eager learners.

In the grades, each school day begins with Main Lessons during the first two hours in the morning. Main Lesson subjects are taught in 2 to 4 week blocks. This allows students to focus and learn about particular subjects over a prolonged and concentrated period.

At the Waldorf Upper School, students begin to view themselves as the adults that they seek to become. The curriculum is presented by specialist teachers in creative ways that engage and challenge the students. Each of the four years in the Upper School curriculum embodies an underlying theme and method that helps guide students through their studies of outward phenomena and in their inner growth. Students explore the world around them as individuals poised to make a difference.
