A Talk for Parents: Heaven to Earth: Working with the Themes in Waldorf Education

Dear AWS Community,

We often hear of the different themes each grade has in Waldorf Education.

Themes like Fairy Tales or Norse Myths often leave us with more questions than answers. Each theme reflects a stage in the incarnating process of a child and is full of practical applications that parents may also consider when with their children. Hopefully with this imagination, and this journey from heaven to earth, we learn to work with our children in their developing years.

All parents are warmly invited to this important Parent Talk by our special guest Mr. Raph Lazo:
When: March 31, 2023 (Friday)
Time: 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.
Where: Michael Hall

We hope you can join us! Thank you for your support!

Filling My Soul with Content: From Tabula Rasa to a Golden Chalice

Dear AWS Community,

In a world full of imagery, loud sounds, and daylight with no night light, how do we understand these effects on a developing child? Let us explore how the developing inner light of a young child may be at risk when overwhelmed with that which surrounds it. Like a golden chalice, how do we fill our children with warm, golden, inner reflected light?

Join us for this important talk on media and its impact on our children, with our special guest, Raph Lazo, on February 23, 2023, at Michael Hall: 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM for parents and friends and 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for the faculty. We look forward to seeing you.

Re: Advent Fair Sustainability Reminders

Dear All,

Greetings! We have less than two weeks to go before the Advent Fair and we thank you for continuing to support the school through your involvement in this annual fundraising event.

This year, we are presented with a unique opportunity to shine as we manifest resiliency. The two -year hiatus opened a window to see our world and our contributions in a different light altogether.

As we prepare, please keep in mind that we are in the ongoing process of striving to educate not only our children but ourselves as part of a growing community of nurturers. Let’s be mindful of what we model.

Here are reminders to keep the spirit of Advent alive before, during and after the festivities:

Plan early. B-Y-O bags, plates, utensils, tumblers, spare containers for leftovers, etc

Clean as we go. Recover to reuse what we can and BRING IT ALL HOME.

Treat all RESOURCES with GRATITUDE. Collection Bins will be in place in case of unavoidable discards. Let’s aim to keep the BINS EMPTY!!!

Keep our spaces as CLEAN, SAFE and BEAUTIFUL as found.

Spread the word to all invited friends and family.

Advent is a time for inner cleansing. Let’s do this with joy in our hearts!

Sincerely yours,
ACACIA WALDORF SCHOOL PARENTS COUNCIL

Teacher’s Day 2021: The Lighthouse

How apt it is that World Teachers’ Day falls on the festival of Michaelmas.
Our teachers always show great courage and resilience, even more so in the last 20 months.

Their strength of will in migrating Waldorf education online, while carefully balancing spiritual health, is much appreciated. While amidst the chaos of world events and the lockdown’s impact in our children’s lives, our teachers remain a lighthouse: upright and blinding in their brilliance, never faltering, with a winding staircase that rises inside, towards a heart full of love, guiding us all.

Michaelmas – The Christian Year Series

Now comes the turning point of the year when all human souls are called inward. The fruits of our labor that ripened during the peak of the sun’s summer strength, which has been harvested and stored, now need the strength of our inner light in order to sustain us during this season of prolonged darkness.

“Michael is the Archangel who faces the Dragon. He endows our hearts with courage. He calls on us to take notice of the beings who work evil. He arouses the forces of conscience and kindles the flame of enthusiasm in those who are willing to follow him. He asks of them the heroic qualities of the heart and those who dared to respond are inspired with the ideal of what man can become in the striving for spiritual freedom.” – Evelyn Francis CapelJoin us as we celebrate the Festival of St. Michael in four parts with our special guests, Reverends Neville Adams and Pablo Corman.

Congratulations Kawayan Class of 2021!

Dearest Kawayan Class,

Congratulations! Listening to your heartwarming speeches yesterday leaves us all without a doubt that you are ready for the next phase of your lives and your education. Graduation day was indeed all about “You”, as one of you stressed. It was a moment to celebrate the gift of this incredible journey you embarked on together as a class, to celebrate your courage and uniqueness as individuals and the tremendous energy and work you put into successfully finishing your secondary education without the need or desire to compare, as one of you so wisely put it.

To hear some of you share your experiences of warmth, acceptance and belonging when you joined Acacia was particularly moving because like the roots of the Kawayan, this connection is a source of strength and resilience. This deep sense of connection brings us to the realization of a truth that the world constantly would have us forget, that we are all connected and part of a whole, that we are One. And this past year has undoubtedly shown us that we refer not only to a oneness with all of humanity but equally with all of creation. Continue to live this simple truth and you will always “Be Kind” as Mr. Daemon advises you.

Kawayan graduates, may you be filled with awe and wonder at this beautiful world that is now in your hands to care for, and may you continue to discover the vastness of this “You” we celebrated on your graduation day, a “You” that is far reaching and all encompassing, limited only by the reach of your awareness.

We are so proud of each and every one of you, and grateful to all your families and teachers who have made this journey possible. We will miss you all. Know that Acacia will always be your home. We now welcome you to our outer circle!

All my love,
Teacher Trina
